What is this new educational technology and how does it work? This is the iPod Touch. You can flip it either horizontally or vertically, using the accelerometer within the device, depending on how you need to use it. The iPod touch features a touch screen that allows users to access many different menus and features by simply touching or dragging items on the screen. The screen works in much the same way a touch pad on a laptop does. There are different types of sensors in use, but whichever type is used in the specific device can sense where the user touches on the screen, often through electrical impulses, and react appropriately. This is easier than using keys for a number of reasons. Users can select something they want simply by touching it, and can scroll through menus with their finger. It makes the experience more interactive, and easier on those who are not used to how the various buttons on a traditional iPod work.
How can we use this new technology in two of our CORE classes to help us learn the curriculum?
Students can read books on the iPod Touch within Classics and can complete math problems with Calculator. Through using technology, students will actually want to learn, because technology makes learning fun.
